Local Businesses: Take Advantage of These Printable Items

April 20, 2021 //  by Bernadette

Is your business spreading its wings into direct mail for the first time? Are you looking for new ways to advertise your products or services? Direct mail comes in many forms, and custom mail services can help you figure out what the best form is for your offerings.

The below printable items are suitable for different forms of advertisement, from discount announcements to informational materials and even brand awareness. Print and mail services can help you design all of the below for your business or nonprofit organization.

Promotional Calendars

Stay on top of your audience’s mind by mailing a 12-month calendar that promotes your brand everytime they refer to it. This is a popular printable for nonprofits, and they’re often sent at the beginning and end of the year. Providers of print and mail services might offer calendars of various sizes, but the two main categories are pocket calendars and full-sized wall calendars.

If you have plenty of business-related images that would look gorgeous blown up in size (landscape design, home design, cooking, etc.), wall calendars can display your work. If you provide a service that’s not as physically appealing (plumbing, tax preparation, law services, etc.) you could provide pocket calendars with small generic images of nature or scenery.

Door Hangers

Get around the clutter of mailboxes by hanging your ads on door handles. This is more ideal for local businesses than those with broad geographical outreach. Though you’ll have to personally go out to hang them, door hangers receive far more attention. They can’t be ignored, and even if the recipients intend to dispose of them, they’ll likely briefly scan it for familiarity with your brand and offerings.

Sample uses for door hangers are real estate offerings, pickup and delivery restaurant menus, and residential services (gardening, pool service, laundry services).

Brochures

If you offer a variety of services, and a flyer isn’t enough to cover them in depth, you can mail out brochures. They can be designed with different folds to accommodate how much information you need to share. Be mindful of how much you share. Too much information or improperly formatted sections can overwhelm your recipient. The key thing is to balance out the white space (or the blank spaces) with images and text.

Professional graphic designers can layout your brochures to keep recipients from turning away. They also can optimize placement of your Call-To-Action, a specific action you want your recipients to take, such as visiting your website, calling to schedule an appointment, or stopping by your store to view your products.

Flyers

A simple flyer can convey all the information you need to share with potential customers. Unlike brochures, flyers are typically about 8.5”x11” while brochures come in many sizes. Most flyers are printed out to hand out in person, though they can be folded in half to be stamped and addressed as direct mail. If you’re announcing a one-time discount or a local event and you don’t want to spend money on high quality paper or cardstock, flyers are an affordable way to spread the word.
